Montenegro

Montenegro is the smallest republic of the former Yugoslavia, but also one of the most diverse holiday destinations in all of Europe. Until 2006, the country was closely linked with Serbia in a union called Serbia-Montenegro and has since then (again) gone its own way.

Montenegro has almost 200 km of coastline with fjord-like inlets such as the Bay of Kotor (Boka Kotorska) as well as sandy beaches and crystal-clear, clean bays. The 13 km long sandy beach of Ulcinj (the longest sandy beach in the entire eastern Adriatic), near the Albanian border, is extremely well-known.

Sveti Stefan, the former fishing village and world-famous hotel destination visited by stars such as Sophia Loren, Claudia Schiffer and Sylvester Stallone, is an absolute highlight of the Mediterranean coast.

As Montenegro is not yet in the EU, roaming charges are exhorbitant, so it's worth buying a local SIM-card or e-sim

Perast and the Bay of Kotor

Kotor is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. with numerous architectural monuments and remnants of the region's former rulers, such as the Illyrians, Romans, Dalmatians, Venetians, French and the Habsburg Austrians.

The Durmitor National Park, home to bears and wolves, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its beauty and uniqueness. In Biogradska Gora you will find one of the last three primeval forests in Europe and at 78 km long and 1300m-deep Tara Gorge is the longest and deepest  in Europe.
