Norway 2022

From the 27th May to the 17th June Esther, Josie and I travelled around southern Norway in our camper van.

We drove from Baldham to Hirtshals, intending to take the fast ferry to Kristiansand, but we had to re-book on a bigger boat, as the departure got cancelled due to storms. For all pictures, see google fotos.

Norway 2022 (cont'd)

From the 27th May to the 17th June Esther, Josie and I travelled around southern Norway in our camper van.

We drove from Baldham to Hirtshals, intending to take the fast ferry to Kristiansand, but we had to re-book on a bigger boat, as the departure got cancelled due to storms.

Fjærland

Village[1] at the end of the Fjærlandsfjorden, in Vestland county, Norway. The Fjærlandfjorden is a branch going north off the Sognefjorden

Very touristy, but an absolute highlight!

Eidsdal & Andalsnes

On the "golden route", between Geiranger and Trollstegen/Alesund

Alesund

Port, scenic town, with panoramic view (Aksia) of surrounding islands. Home of the Sunnmøre museum.

Hirtshals

Although our fast ferry was cancelled, due to storms, we could re-book onto a slower ferry with a cabin on the same day. It gave us a little time to have a look around Hirtshals, which didn't take long.

Åros, Kristiansand

We recovered from the drive and got into "holiday feeling"

Kristiansand is a seaside resort city and municipality in Agder county, Norway. The city is the fifth-largest and the municipality the sixth-largest in Norway, with a population of around 112,000 as of January 2020, following the incorporation of the municipalities of Søgne and Songdalen into the greater Kristiansand municipality. We stayed at the well-run Åros campsite, which had a nice beach, nice walks and within biking-distance of Kristiansand.

Vikevåg, Rennesoy

One of many lovely Norwegian Islands

Just passing through... we arrived on the coast road and didn't spend much time in Stavanger.

The coast road includes numerous tunnels and ferries: fares charged automatically, so no time wasted booking tickets :-)

Sognefjord is 205 KM long.

Boat tour to the Jostedalsbreen Glacier & Norwegian Glacier Museum

We left the Womo for a day, enjoying both the majestic glacier, fascinating musuem... and not having to drive.

Geiranger

An absolute highlight, but best visited outside the high season!

Eidsdal & Aarset

... der Weg ist das Ziel: on the way from Geiranger to Alesund

Alesund

Scenic town, with many stone buildings, an impressive panoramic viewpoint over the surrounding islands, and a lovely open-air museum, showing Norwegian buildings over the centuries.
